Rowing and Canoeing
The river Barrow is one of the most popular destinations for canoeing enthusiasts anywhere in Ireland. It is particularly popular for touring clubs and outdoor activity centres. There is a combination of flat water stretches for beginners as well as several weirs on the navigation where there is opportunity for some more challenging manoeuvres.
The stretch upriver from Graiguenamanagh has also become a popular spot for rowing clubs, particularly since Graiguenamanagh established its own rowing club in 2001. Brian Roberts, proprietor of Waterside, founder of Graiguenamanagh Rowing club and can advise any club interested in visiting the town for weekend training camps. We went one step further in 2013 establishing Irish Rowing Adventures, a full guided holiday for rowing clubs where we can assist you with accommodation, meals, coaching assistance, boat hire, lock keepers and safety boats. Waterside has as a result become the base for regular visits by international rowers to enjoy tour rowing on the rivers Barrow and Nore.
